Woman Arrested for Acid Attack on Ex-Boyfriend During His Wedding in Chhattisgarh

In a shocking incident from Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district, a 22-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly throwing acid on her ex-boyfriend during his wedding. The incident occurred on April 19, 2023, in Chhote Amabal village.

The groom, Damrudhar Baghel (25), was marrying a 19-year-old woman when the attack happened. As a result, the groom, bride, and ten wedding attendees sustained minor burns.

Following the attack, police registered a case under Section 326 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by using acid. The investigation involved checking CCTV footage, activating informers, and examining the backgrounds of the bride and groom.

“The incident took place during late evening hours when the power supply was disrupted, making it difficult for witnesses to identify the attacker,” a police officer stated.

Investigations later revealed that the attacker was the groom’s ex-girlfriend, who disguised herself as a man to conceal her identity. The woman admitted to the crime and stated that she and Damrudhar were in a relationship for several years. She felt betrayed when he decided to marry someone else.

According to police, she stole acid from a local chilli farm where she worked. The acid is typically used to clean the farm’s drip irrigation system.

The police are continuing their investigation to ensure justice is served. This incident highlights the dangers of acid attacks and the need for strict action against such crimes.
