Man Marries Twin Sisters in Maharashtra, Faces Non-Cognizable Offence Charge

In a surprising incident from Solapur, Maharashtra, a man married twin sisters from Mumbai in a joint wedding ceremony. The event took place on December 2 at a hotel in Malegaon village on Akluj Welapur Road.

The twin sisters, both IT professionals aged 36, decided to marry the same man because they could not bear to be separated after marriage. Both families agreed to the unusual arrangement, according to local police.

Videos of the wedding have gone viral on social media, where the names of the groom and brides were prominently displayed, and guests were seen cheering for the twins. However, the incident raised legal concerns when a social worker from Akluj filed a complaint with the Solapur district police.

As a result, the groom has been charged under Section 494 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which prohibits marrying again during the lifetime of a spouse. The offence is classified as non-cognizable, meaning the police need court permission to investigate further.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Basavraj Shivpuje confirmed that they would approach the court to seek approval for the investigation. Solapur rural Superintendent of Police, Shirish Sardeshpande, added that both sisters were very close and wanted to stay together after marriage. The investigation is ongoing.
