In a recent incident in Baksa district, Assam, a 23-year-old man named Jyotish Das was brutally beaten by a group of people for taking a selfie with his female assistant. Jyotish, a computer teacher at a private computer training institute for the past 10 months, faced this attack on May 23, 2020.
Members of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) came to Jyotish’s office, seized his phone, and took him to their office where he was beaten. They questioned why he took a selfie with a girl from the Bodo community.
Jyotish explained that they were good friends and only shared friendly messages. Despite showing them the messages, the assault continued.
Jyotish’s mother later rescued him. It was revealed that a boy from the Bodo community liked the girl and suspected her of having an affair with Jyotish. Following the incident, the boy’s family filed an FIR against the assailants.
This incident highlights the severe consequences of misunderstanding and intolerance, prompting legal actions to ensure justice.
